Google Review Not Showing Up? Seven Reasons Reviews Disappear
A customer swears they posted it and your listing says otherwise. Here are the seven causes, in the order they are likely.

It is a genuinely maddening problem: a customer tells you they left a review, they may even show you a screenshot, and your listing does not have it. There are a limited number of causes and most of them are not something you did.
1. It is still processing
New reviews can take anywhere from a few minutes to a couple of days to appear, and longer when Google is running checks on the account or the listing. Before investigating anything else, wait 48 hours.
2. It was posted on a duplicate listing
This is the most common real cause for Indian small businesses. Many have two listings — one created properly and one auto-generated years ago from another data source. Customers who search find whichever ranks; reviews split between them, and each listing looks quieter than the business actually is.
Search your business name in an incognito window and on Maps, and look for a second entry with an old address or no photos. If you find one, claim it and request a merge through Business Profile support.
3. The account looked untrustworthy to Google’s filters
A brand-new Google account, with no profile photo, no review history and no Maps activity, posting its first ever review, is the exact profile of a paid reviewer. Genuine first-time reviewers get caught by this regularly. There is nothing you can do about it and nothing wrong on your side.
4. Several reviews came from the same network
Five reviews posted from the shop wifi in one afternoon, or from one device passed around the counter, look like a coordinated batch. Ask customers to post from their own mobile data if you are collecting several in a short window, and never post on a customer’s behalf.
5. The content broke a policy
Reviews get removed automatically for including a phone number, a URL, profanity, or the name of a staff member in an accusatory context. A glowing review can vanish for containing a mobile number the customer added helpfully.
6. It was left on the wrong business
A customer searching a common business name in a big city can easily land on a different branch or a similarly named shop two kilometres away. This is the single strongest argument for handing people a direct review link rather than asking them to search.
A direct link removes the search step entirely, and a QR code removes the typing too.
How to get your Google review link7. The reviewer deleted it
People do change their minds, or clear their review history when they tidy up their Google account. There is no notification when this happens, so a review that existed last month and is gone now may simply have been withdrawn.
What to do about it
- 1Wait two days before treating it as a problem.
- 2Check for a duplicate listing — this is the fixable one and it is more common than owners expect.
- 3Give customers a direct review link so they cannot land on the wrong listing.
- 4Never ask a customer to repost. A second review from the same account replaces the first and can attract a filter.
The uncomfortable truth is that some proportion of genuine reviews will always be filtered out, for every business. That is a volume problem, and the only answer to it is asking enough people that the ones which survive still add up.
Common questions
Can I ask Google to restore a filtered review?
You can raise it with Business Profile support, but reinstatement is rare and the reviewer usually has to contact Google themselves. Treat it as unrecoverable and keep collecting.
Do reviews without any text still count?
A star rating with no words still counts toward your average and displays on the listing. It carries less weight with human readers, who tend to read the written ones.
Why did all my reviews disappear at once?
A sudden mass disappearance usually means a listing merge, a suspension, or a purge of reviews Google judged inauthentic. Check your Business Profile for a suspension notice first.
